President Biden Authorizes Federal Funding for Mississippi Disaster Relief

With the support of President Joe Biden, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that it will provide disaster assistance to the state of Mississippi following severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes on March 24-25, 2023.


President Biden recently announced federal funding for affected residents in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties. The Grants will assist to build temporary housing and home repairs, will help to give low-interest loans for the individual who has faces loss due to uninsured property, and other programs will assist individuals and business owners in recovering from the disaster’s effects will be provided.

All the Individuals and business owners who have suffered losses in the designated areas can apply for disaster assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by phone at 800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA App. Those who use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS) or captioned telephone service, must provide FEMA with their contact information.

Federal funding will also be available for emergency work to states, tribes, eligible local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations, including direct federal assistance through the Public Assistance program. FEMA will cover costs for those affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sarkey counties on a cost-sharing basis. Furthermore, federal funding for statewide hazard mitigation measures will be available on a cost-sharing basis.

President Biden has appointed John F. Boyle as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Additional designations may be made if the state requests them and the results of subsequent assessments support them.

The announcement comes as a welcome relief to those affected by the severe weather in Mississippi, as it will provide critical financial assistance to help them recover and rebuild, with President Joe Biden’s support.
